• where the rez meets the virtual world …

I’m just your average Native American, half Plains Cree, half Mohawk, rez-livin’, single motherin’, IT instructin’, sci-fi lovin’ woman who just so happens to love knittin’, hockey and baseball.

Oh yeah, and I'm totally made of awesome.

About

I’m just your average Native American, rez-livin’, single motherin’, IT instructin’, sci-fi lovin’ woman who just so happens to love knittin’ and hockey.

I teach advanced computers and networking to interns all across Saskatchewan and parts of Alberta via high speed internet using fancy software and hardware without ever having to leave the comfort of my rez.  I love my job, and I’m really having a great time.  I have great co-workers too, so that makes for a fun work day.

I live in the geographical middle of nowhere Saskatchewan, and I love it.  I live about 20km from where I was born in the nearest town to my reserve back when they still delivered babies at that hospital.  They’ve since torn down that hospital and built a snazzy new medical centre.  They didn’t even have the decency to put a plaque commorating my birth there.  I was highly insulted.  ;)

The good news is, now I’m raising my kids in the house I grew up in.  It’s all sorts of interesting.  While it doesn’t make it easy to pretend I’m a grown up as I’m constantly awash with memories of my own childhood, it at least makes it easy to stay young.  It’s also a bit trippy especially since the kids look so much like me and my brother.  lol  I can practically hear the Cylons quoting that line in Battlestar Galactica … “This has all happened before, and it will all happen again.”  Creeeeeeeeeeepeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

And just a little geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeky.  Hahahaa

Speaking of which …  I have two kids:  my daughter and my nephew.  They are both intelligent, funny, charming, and beautiful children who make my life both a joy and a jumble.  My daughter is now 10, and my nephew is five.  I’ve been raising my daughter on my own since she was three weeks old, and a few years ago, my brother and nephew moved in with me and my daughter.   At the time, my brother was working super long hours on the rigs, and slowly I started taking over a lot of stuff to help my brother out.  Eventually I was just taking care of my sweet nephew.  It wasn’t anything nepharious.  :)  My brother sees his son a lot, and we’re all happy.  The kids are practically siblings, and everyone gets lots of love and hugs and kisses.  It’s also a life of insanity and bliss.  Mixed in with a good dose of laughter and yelling.  :)

I also live with my sister.  She’s all sorts of awesome and … well, she’s my little sister.  We laugh, we argue, we watch a lot of tv.  :P  I’d say more about her, but I think she can speak for herself.  She’s a smart cookie, and I don’t think she gives herself enough credit.  Of all my sisters (I have four in all), we’re probably the least alike, and yet, we’re the closest.  She’s currently taking courses to become a long-term care worker and she works with the Community Access Program at the computer lab I run.

We have three dogs:  Daisy Duke, Roosevelt, and McGhee.  They’re all mutts, and they’re all beautiful.  They’re also  untrained, misbehaved and absolutely adorable.  I wouldn’t trade them for all the pedigree in the world.  <3  Daisy is our alpha in our little pack, she’s aggressive, but she’s also very sweet.  She’s protective of the children, and she knows what’s her territory.  She’s part border collie (not that you could tell by looking at her … but we know), and herding the kids is her favourite past time.  Roosevelt is an enormous push over.  She’s constantly bullied by Daisy, but she doesn’t let anything get her down!  She’s probably the most energetic and sweet-natured animal I’ve ever seen.  As for McGhee, well she’s so energetic, and so much fun.  She’s probably the ONLY dog we’ve ever managed to potty train.  lol  She’s also the spitting image of her father, the late and great Scrappy, the best dog we ever had.

Update: And now we have 3 kittens.  This could get interesting to say the least.  For the moment (at least until spring anyway), they’re hanging out in the basement.  When they’re a bit bigger and can fend off Roosevelt, they may or may not move outside.  We’ll see.  The one black one we got from my sister’s friend is named Fuzzball.  The other two we got from a litter in Onion Lake courtesy of my mom’s friend.  Their names are Garfield and Dagnus.  As none of us are really “cat people” per se, we haven’t yet determined their sexes.  lol  Nobody seems to care though, and the names have been chosen regardless of their sex.  If they all turn out to be girls, the names will stay it has been declared.

Yeah … it’s a pretty sweet life. <3
